A couple weekends ago I hosted my very first baby shower for one of my very best friends. Cristina and her husband Trevor are expecting their first baby this September. As soon as we found out it was a girl, her sister and I began planning.
The theme was Baby and Momma Bird and was inspired by the venue, our back deck of the house on the Pleasanton Ridge. We lovingly call it ‘The Nest’. How perfect! Almost all of the decorations were DIY, from the custom coffee stirrers to the matching birdhouses.
The baby shower was the perfect way to celebrate how excited we all are for Baby Bella.

I was so excited to plan an entire event that I hope to be able to do it for others in the future. I do have a knack for picnics!
This weekend my amazing parents treated our TI fam to a weekend of snow and relaxation in Tahoe.
The drive up was not un-eventful. I had a very sick tummy and ended up making Lo stop a million times. I have weird anxiety when it comes to traveling. But, we made it. And there was snow everywhere!
We did some laying around as soon as we got up there and my mom made us a huge pot of delicious spaghetti. We all ate and drank wine (Wente, of course). We played Phase 10 and were later joined by Pear and Code and Leilani and Matt.
The next day the snowboarders and skiiers (everyone minus Me, Mac, Lo, Code, and my parents) got up super early to get to Sierra by 9am. They were so excited and we were equally excited to sit around and relax. We watched a movie and then my Dad and I took a drive around the entire lake. Lake Tahoe is one of my favorite spots and I have wanted to see what the rest of Tahoe looks like for a while now. It took us about 3 hours (with a few stops). I love that we live so close to such a beautiful place! We generally stay in South Lake but next time I think we will stay on the West Shore. These are some photos from our mini-roadtrip. I figure one day we will dive across the country–we are road trip buds.
The next day we shopped, watched movies, ate, and played games. We also watched in awe as a huge snow storm came in. We ended up watching 40 Year Old Virgin, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Hangover, The Exorcism of Emily Rose (well i didn’t watch it–too scary!), Inglorious Bastards etc. So nice to relax.
We kinda sorta hoped we would be snowed-in but we were responsible and left before the major storm.
My brothers LOVEEEEEE me.
Bye, Tahoe! Next trip: Austin, Texas.
feel like watching pointless vids from the trip/my life?
A few nights ago we had our first Thriving Ink Christmas Party. We ate party food, drank deeelicious cocktails (courtesy of Martha Stewart) and had a great White Elephant Gift Exchange.
i got a giant life-size picture of jake trying his first beer. special.
then Cody stole it. nice.
i drowned my sorrow of losing jake’s photo with Martha Stewart Christmas cocktails. Perri likes to call them “Punch Martha” cocktails. She has a thing against the crafty goddess.
Merry Christmas from the TI girls (minus Michaela and Kristen)!
This weekend Angelica and I sold Thriving Ink tees at a little holiday fair we were invited to. It was mostly handmade items and baked goods and many nice people came through to help support the school it was held at. Across from our booth were exquisite doll houses. Angelica and I spent a long time discussing each house, which one we would want to live in, which ones were the best decorated etc. These doll houses were magical!

I get up to go to the bathroom and realize the kind old man who had made the dollhouses and hanging over our booth in Angelica’s face. He now looks less kind and more horny. He proceeded to compliment her coloring and make awkward small talk about her name.
We decided when we buy our future children’s doll houses we will require that we know who made the house to be sure they were not constructed by a perv. We were duped! Duped, i say.
Okay enough time has passed and i have been able to almost completely get rid of the nightmares and can now tell my harrowing tale about the night After Thought came to the shop to play.
We have had plenty of musicians come in to the shop and play for a few hours and it is always really chill–mostly acoustic stuff. The last First Wednesday Street Party was going to be happening that night and we really wanted to find a local band who would want to jam inside the shop for the evening to help bring kids down from Main Street to our shop on little W Angela.
We found a band that is available! After Thought–a punk band. {Alright, no problem. These kids that are in the band are super cool and friendly, i am sure everything will go fine.}
I run next door to our merchant neighbors, a baby store and a kids toy shop. {Hey guys, do you mind a Punk band playing tonight…? We promise that if it gets out of hand we will put an end to it. Okay? Okay! Thanks!}
Everything seems that it will work out. Then the band’s gear starts showing up. {Matt, are those AMPS? Matt, is that a full drum set? Matt, why are they setting up on the sidewalk? Why do they have a PIT BULL with them???}
Matt and I silently start freaking out. We begin helping the band set up knowing full well you generally need a permit from the city to have amplified music. My mom always says it is better to ask for forgiveness than permission and with that idea we continue to set up.
By this time the sidewalk in front of our shop is beginning to fill up with friends of the band… their parents…dogs…kids on skateboards…{Uh Matt, can you tell them to not block the families with strollers…}
After a sound check which Matt took care of the band finally began playing.
And guess what? Not only were the guys super chill and understanding of our noise restrictions but they sounded awesome. Families and kids made their way down to our shop just to listen to their set. And no police were called. And i didn’t have a panic attack. Successful evening, indeed.
